celebrity sightings

Have you ever met or seen a celebrity? My only real celebrity sighting was when I saw Sinbad (at the height of his popularity) going through the airport at 5 AM back when I was around eleven years old.

My friend/client Jaime sees celebrities everywhere. David Hasslehoff just sat next to him in the lounge at the airport. He once ran into David Schwimmer on the street. And I mean, RAN into him.

He will tell me about these sightings and it made me realize something. I potentially see celebrities everywhere- but I just don't recognize them. He recognized drummers from random bands. He recognized actors that had bit parts on Law and Order. Unless it is someone truly famous who is in Us Weekly, I am not going to recognize them on the street.

But what is it about seeing a celebrity that is special anyways? Why would we want their autograph? Proof that we met them? What is so great about meeting them? It is a weird phenomenon.
